This area of the agency encompasses Curriculum and Instruction, Early Learning, Technology, Accountability, Career and Technical Education, Exceptional Children, Federal Program Monitoring, District and School Transformation, and Educator Recruitment and Development. The Elementary, Middle/High School, and LEA Councils also operate as part of Academic Services. Area functions address all State Board goals but focus primarily on producing globally competitive students, having schools led by 21st century professionals, and leadership for innovation. Major initiatives include developing essential standards, building a statewide system of support for schools and districts, and responding to the Framework for Change to develop a new accountability model.
