SUPPORT SERVICES SECTION

The purpose of the Support Services Section is to provide guidance, technical assistance, and support to the schools and LEAs in the areas of school safety, and alternative learning. The section is responsible for state administrative oversight of alternative education, crime and discipline issues, safe schools programs, and drug and tobacco use prevention. The section is housed in the Division of Program Monitoring and Support Services, and provides technical assistance to alternative learning programs, alternative schools, and any schools with a high rate of violent crime. It is also responsible for the collection of crime, discipline, dropout, and alternative learning program roster data, for any needed analyses of these data, and for the production of related annual reports for the SBE, General Assembly, and federal government.
