The North Carolina End-of-Course Tests are used to sample a student’s knowledge of subject-related concepts as specified in the North Carolina Standard Course of Study and to provide a global estimate of the student’s mastery of the material in a particular content area. The North Carolina End-of-Course tests were initiated in response to legislation passed by the North Carolina General Assembly – the North Carolina Elementary and Secondary Reform Act of 1984. Currently, students enrolled in the following courses are required to take the North Carolina EOC tests:
( Algebra I | Algebra II | Biology | Chemistry | English I | Geometry | Physical Science | Physics ).
Starting with the 2005-06 school year, operational EOC tests will be implemented in Civics and Economic, and U.S. History courses. For students with disabilities or students identified as limited English proficient, the EOCs can be completed during the standard administration with accommodation or with the appropriate alternate assessment. All end-of-course tests must be administered during the last week (block schedule or summer school) or the last two weeks (traditional schedule) of the instructional period.
