The North Carolina Writing Assessment program requires that the modes of writing assessed at grade 10 be aligned with the curriculum expectations as specified in the North Carolina Standard Course of Study. The program will assess writing at grade 10 using the Extended Informational Response (definition, cause/effect or problem/solution) mode. The North Carolina Writing Assessment must be administered on the first Tuesday of March.
