GUIDANCE FOR USING GROWTH AND EOC PREDICTION FORMULAS MAY 2002

End-of-Grade (EOG)

Appropriate Use:

• calculate an approximate growth expectation for a school average

Use with Caution:

• to calculate approximate growth expectations for typical individual students or heterogeneous classes of students that are representative of an entire school

Inappropriate Use:

• make placement decisions about students based on their potential impact on the ABCs
• calculate approximate growth expectations for student(s) with extreme (high or low) pretest scores

End-of-Course (EOG)

Appropriate Use:

• calculate approximate growth expectations for high schools based on school wide averages
• calculate approximate target growth score at the school level for the ABCs

Inappropriate Use:

• make placement decisions about students based on their potential impact on the ABCs
• calculate approximate growth expectations for individual students
• calculate approximate growth projections for small homogeneous groups of students
• calculate approximate growth expectations for a school based on data from the first block in a school with 4X4 Block scheduling
