2001-02 ABC PROGRAM INFORMATION
GUIDANCE FOR USING GROWTH AND EOC PREDICTION FORMULAS MAY 2002
End-of-Grade (EOG)
Appropriate Use:
- calculate an approximate growth expectation for a school average
Use with Caution:
- to calculate approximate growth expectations for typical individual students or heterogeneous classes of students that are representative of an entire school
Inappropriate Use:
- make placement decisions about students based on their potential impact on the ABCs
- calculate approximate growth expectations for student(s) with extreme (high or low) pretest scores
End-of-Course (EOG)
Appropriate Use:
- calculate approximate growth expectations for high schools based on school wide averages
- calculate approximate target growth score at the school level for the ABCs
Inappropriate Use:
- make placement decisions about students based on their potential impact on the ABCs
- calculate approximate growth expectations for individual students
- calculate approximate growth projections for small homogeneous groups of students
- calculate approximate growth expectations for a school based on data from the first block in a school with 4X4 Block scheduling
Other Sources of Information
- Accountability Briefs (for statewide average growth
expectations)
- Setting Annual Growth Standards (EOG)
- The EOC Prediction Formulas
- ABC Tools Accountability Report from the prior year (for a
specific school)
- More specific information about student scores can be obtained by using the Historical Audit Report rather than the Growth Projections utility.
