Social Studies
Thank you to everyone who submitted comments on Draft 1.0 of the Essential Standards for Social Studies. When the comment period ended in March, we had predicted that Draft 2.0 would be available in mid-April for comment.
Comments received during the review period necessitated significant revision to these standards. As the work of the curriculum writing teams (comprised of teachers and content specialists) has advanced, it also became clear that in order to make the level of changes that are needed, it would take longer than expected to complete the process. As such, the date for release of Draft 2.0 of the Essential Standards for Social Studies has been pushed to August.
As promised, there will be widespread notice given when Draft 2.0 is ready for review. It will be posted online and a public comment period will be provided. The second round revisions will include two high school level United States History courses. That change alone has had domino effects on middle school curriculum in particular.
