Event Sponsor: Other Association or Organization
Event Type: Seminar/Workshop
Primary Category: Teachers
Sub-Category:
Event Dates: 2/14/2010 through 2/18/2010
Brief Description: Through its immensity, power, and mystery, the sea has found its way into our literature and our dreams. How have writers throughout history worked with nautical symbols like tempests, tides, lighthouses, shores, anchors, and harbors? How can responding to their texts stir our own creativity in writing? Sojourn with us on Ocracoke Island, poised between the great Atlantic and the great American landmass for a week of deep-sea diving into the literature and life of the sea. Read the works of classic and contemporary authors analyzing the use of the sea as a metaphor and a setting. Rediscover the joy of writing as we experiment with guided freewriting that focuses more on process than on product. Weather permitting, we will take our writing outdoors to flesh it out with details from our immediate sensory experience. Writing prompts will get us started and sharing with an encouraging band of fellow explorers will keep us going. This seminar requires no previous creative writing experience, only a willingness to share thoughts and memories as we create a supportive community of fellow writers.“Registration begins September 29, 2009.”
