Event Dates: 1/5/2010 through 1/9/2010
Brief Description: Teachers and students are moving into an age of new media where we are presented with a nearly infinite number of means of expression. Will this proliferation of ever-changing technology leave us dehumanized and isolated? Or will it offer us new opportunities to tell the human story in fresh and vibrant ways? Can electronic media open up unexplored channels for self-expression and deeply human interaction, just as the invention of the pictogram helped the ancient Egyptians communicate and connect across space and time? Explore personal narrative in the digital age, going beyond the proliferation of the text-based blog to the innovative interplay of pictures and words that technology makes possible. Learn how combinations of static images and text can be manipulated digitally to tell stories. Come ready to experiment with new technology, to practice using readily available e-tools, and most importantly, to discover and share your story. Return to your classroom with new strategies for exploring visual literacy from petroglyphs to avatars.“Registration begins September 29, 2009.”
