Global Perspectives: Promoting the World Through Your Students' Eyes - 13136
Event Sponsor: Other Association or Organization
Event Type: Seminar/Workshop
Primary Category: Teachers
Sub-Category:
Event Dates: 2/21/2010 through 2/25/2010
Brief Description: Join with colleagues from across the state to explore local and global cultures and examine current social issues such as sustainability, classism, and gender roles. Relate such topics to your students’ experiences as we guide them in expanding their horizons and understanding global awareness. Most students see the world based on their age, cognitive and psychological development, and limited exposure to global issues and concerns. Brainstorm and develop ways to carry our students’ awareness beyond the self and school. Create resources such as cross-curricular academic programs and service learning projects to promote global understanding, diversity awareness, and personal leadership development. Through project-based, hands-on and interactive learning, you will acquire a global studies approach to teaching and learn the skills necessary to develop lessons, identify age-appropriate resources, and adapt lessons to promote in your students a greater respect for themselves and others. By helping our children grow in their responsibility toward others, we also help them realize the power of their own potential to change the world. "Registration begins September 29, 2009.
