Event Dates: 2/7/2010 through 2/11/2010
Brief Description: From the sandy shores of the Outer Banks to the hazy heights of the Smoky Mountains, few states can claim as much geographical diversity as ours. If home is where the heart is, how has our state’s geography influenced the passionate writing of our state’s authors? How is a sense of place revealed in their writing? Celebrate our state’s rich literary heritage in ways that illuminate its culture, politics, and environmental issues. Join respected North Carolina authors as we explore these issues and discover how we can help our students learn to write about their sense of place and home. Discuss the similarities and differences of growing up in the mountains, piedmont, and coast. Explore how life in the island community of Ocracoke provides an ideal context for our analysis of home. Learn more about our state’s emerging writers and how their subjects reflect a changing North Carolina. Return home to your classroom prepared to inspire the authors of tomorrow, North Carolina’s students.
