Brief Description: Wake County Solid Waste Management Division is hosting a Feed the Bin Recycling & Solid Waste Workshop on Saturday, March 9, 2013 from 9:00 am - 3:30 pm.

(Note: This is a 2-part workshop for those needing 10-hours of N.C. Environmental Education credit or 1 CEU).

By attending this FREE workshop you will:

-Look at the history of garbage and recycling and the current disposal methods of today

-Learn about landfill design, management, and waste reduction measures used in the solid waste industry

-Participate in hands-on lessons in recycling & composting, litter prevention, and the 7 types of plastics

-Receive the Feed the Bin curriculum of lesson plans and resources to use with K-8 students. All lessons are cross-curricular and correlated to the new NC Core/Essential Standards

-Receive 6-10 hrs of EE Criteria 1 credit and/or 1.0 CEU's (see school admin for CEU pre-approval)

(OPTIONAL) Field Work: South Wake Landfill tour plus on-site stream testing will be held on the following Saturday, March 16, 2013 (for those needing full credit.)

Class Limits: Minimum 15; Maximum 30 (a limited number of seats will be available for out-of-county educators.)
