CMS STUDENTS AMONG TOP URBAN DISTRICTS ON U.S. TESTS

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools continued an eight-year run of leading other big cities on national reading and math tests, according to 2011 results released Wednesday.CMS is among 21 urban districts reporting fourth- and eighth-grade reading and math scores on the National Assessment of Educational Progress, also known as NAEP or the nation's report card. CMS rated first or second in all areas. The strong comparative showing affirms the recognition CMS earned this fall, when it claimed the Broad Prize for Urban Education. Interim Superintendent Hugh Hattabaugh said it validates "the reform agenda put into place by Peter Gorman," who resigned as superintendent in June, as well as the work of educators across CMS.
