LUMBERTON HIGH SCHOOL TO START CAREER ACADEMIES TO GIVE STUDENTS A PATH TO THE FUTURE

Students at Lumberton High School will work toward a career, not just a diploma, next school year. In an effort to make the school smaller, its student body of nearly 2,200 - the 12th largest in the state, and the largest outside of Charlotte and Raleigh - will be divided among six career academies made up of 16 career pathways including government, business, technology, agriculture, manufacturing and health-care fields. Principal Stephen Gaskins said the academies will create smaller learning communities where students will work more closely with teachers on a customized curriculum that fits students' career goals.
