AWARDS ROLLING IN FOR SCHOOLS, SUPERINTENDENT

Davie's school system continues to rack up achievements.Last month, Davie High and the Early College earned rankings in the Best High Schools in the state and nation, and more recently, Superintendent Dr. Darrin Hartness was named the 2013 Regional Superintendent of the Year.Davie High and the Early College are two of 73 high schools in the state to be recognized in Newsweek's list of America's Best High Schools. Newsweek looks at graduation rates, participation in college-level classes, test scores, and acceptance in two- and four-year college programs.Out of 2,000 schools, Davie was ranked 1,558, with a graduation rate of 83 percent and an average SAT score of 1526. The Early College was ranked 1935, with a graduation rate of 93 percent and an average SAT score of 1540.Davie was ranked 45th in the state in the U.S. News and World Report's list of best high schools, earning a silver medal.Davie Principal Jinda Haynes said: "We are pleased to have been recognized at the national level for the achievements of students and staff. Davie High has improved proficiency ratings in English and math, and we have continued to expand Advanced Placement (AP) offerings during difficult budget years. While we are honored to rank among America's best high schools, the Davie High faculty seeks continual improvement, and we will not be satisfied until every student graduates ready for the next steps, whether college or careers."
