GUILFORD COUNTY SCHOOLS MAKE ROOM FOR DADS
The work can take as little as 15 minutes. In that time, or maybe a little more, fathers of students at Brooks Global Studies oversee the car rider lines and monitor the halls each morning. They step in again around lunch time. They work in shifts, mentoring students, tutoring and tackling such tasks as planting trees."These little things make a huge difference," said Angel Guerrero, the chairman of Fathers Being Involved, or FBI, a male involvement group at the school.Guerrero is also working to boost fathers' involvement in local schools. In Guilford County Schools several upcoming events are aimed at better engaging fathers. It's an idea backed by research. Schools are more successful when parents are involved.
