SCHOOLS RECOGNIZED FOR ARTS PROGRAMS

Two Winston-Salem/Forsyth County schools have been recognized for having some of the top arts education programs in the state.Diggs-Latham Elementary School and Reynolds High School were two of five North Carolina schools to receive a John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts School of Excellence in Arts Education Award. Both are magnet schools with a focus on the arts, and were recognized for their arts education, arts integration and arts exposure, according to a news release from Arts North Carolina. At both Diggs-Latham and Reynolds, the arts permeate school culture, present not just in classes like music and dance but also in math, reading and other traditional subject areas."I think the award solidifies the value of the arts magnet school strand and what we are providing for the children in the district, which is high-quality arts-infused instruction," said Kim Marion, interim magnet schools coordinator for the district.
