GREENSBORO STUDENT'S LOVE OF BOOKS SPURS GIVEAWAY
Foust Elementary students recently walked into the school library to find tables covered with books, and each student could take one home for free.They chattered as they thumbed through pages, flipping the covers over to the read the back.Mira Sampath, a senior at The Early College at Guilford College, spent months collecting books and seeking donations to ensure Foust's students had something that had been a crucial part of her childhood — a good book.She got the idea earlier this year while talking to her cousin, who was volunteering at the weekend Parent Academy at Foust. Sampath's cousin said some of the children did not have books at home.Rising to the challenges of 2014 (Winston-Salem Journal) -- There is much to be encouraged about as the new year begins, particularly in the area of economic development and expanding job opportunities. We're also starting to see progress in solving some tough social issues, such as raising the high-school graduation rate in Forsyth County. And some exciting projects – a new Central Library for one – are on the horizon.
