FIELD TRIPS EXPOSE STUDENTS TO CAREERS

A $400 grant from Target Stores recently funded field trips for fourth- and fifth-grade students at Aycock Elementary School to various locations in Henderson and Vance County to expose them to different careers.
Three groups of students and their teachers visited a total of 18 different businesses, government offices and other locations in the county. The locations included Brewer Cycles, The Daily Dispatch, the Vance County Sheriff’s Office, Perry Memorial Library, Toyota of Henderson, Vance County Early College High School on the campus of Vance-Granville Community College, the Baymont Inn, Henderson Family YMCA, Marketplace Shopping Center, the Vance County Animal Shelter, a farm owned by Pete and Talmadge Burgess, the Food Lion on Dabney Drive, First Citizens Bank, EZ Car Care, Henderson Central Fire Station and Wal-Mart Distribution Center.
Erika Barnett, the school’s counselor, secured the grant and planned the visits.
