STUDENTS PLANT 400 VENUS FLYTRAPS IN WILMINGTON
Students from Friends School and Cape Fear Community College got their hands dirty on Friday. The group planted 400 Venus Flytraps at the public Stanley Rehder Carnivorous Garden. The rare plan only grows naturally in the wild within a 75-mile radius of Wilmington. Rep. Ted Davis was also at the event and says he introducing a bill in May, which could make the theft of the state’s official carnivorous plat, or its seeds a class H felony. "If this place goes away and the plant goes away, we will never have them again. So I think it's very important and I'm very proud to work with the conservancy in an effort so we can try and preserve this area,” said Rep. Davis. A free event, called the ‘Venus Flytrap Frolic’ will take place Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Stanley Rehder Carnivorous Garden.
