Are charter schools required to have an emergency response plan?A charter school, in conjunction with local law enforcement agencies, is encouraged to adopt an emergency response plan relating to incidents of school violence. Charter schools are also encouraged to provide schematic diagrams and keys to the main entrance of school facilities to local law enforcement agencies. At least once per year, each school is encouraged to hold a full school-wide, school safety and lockdown exercise with local law enforcement agencies. Schools are also encouraged to place one or more crisis kits throughout the school that include, at a minimum, basic first aid supplies and communication devices.
