FAMILY AND CONSUMER SCIENCES EDUCATION

Family and Consumer Sciences (FACS) Education empowers individuals to manage the challenges of living and working in a diverse global society. Students develop human literacy as they master a complex set of essential skills and knowledge needed to achieve quality of life. They gain career preparedness as they acquire readiness to participate in a rapidly changing workforce and global economy.

Individual Family and Consumer Sciences Education courses are described in the Career and Technical Education Essential Standards (pdf, 696kb). Facilities that support these courses are described in the NC Public Schools Facilities Guidelines.

Equipment and technical needs for the following Family and Consumer Sciences Education facilities are included in this guide:

  • Apparel and Interior Design Facility
  • Comprehensive High School Facility
  • Culinary Arts and Hospitality Facility
  • Early Childhood Education Facility
  • Exploring Life Skills Facility
  • Food Science Facility
  • Non-Laboratory Facility (not in facility planner)

NOTE: This guide does not list supplies and materials that might be purchased on an annual basis. This guide serves as a guideline for planning new programs as well as providing for existing programs. It is critical that facilities be properly equipped to ensure that students can achieve the required essential standards and objectives/indicators for each course.
