HOSA is a career and technical student organization of, by, and for students who:

  1. are or have been enrolled in a Health Science Education program.
  2. are interested in, planning to pursue, or pursuing a career in the health professions.

HOSA is endorsed by the U.S. Department of Education and the Health Science Technology Education Division of ACTE. HOSA's two-fold mission is to promote career opportunities in the healthcare industry and to enhance the delivery of quality health care to all people. HOSA's goal is to encourage all health sciences instructors and students to join and be actively involved in the HSTE-HOSA Partnership.

HOSA provides a unique program of leadership development, motivation, and recognition exclusively for students enrolled in Health Science programs. HOSA is 100 percent healthcare!

HOSA includes a Middle School Division composed of students grades 6 through 8 interested in or planning to pursue a career in the health professions; a Secondary Division for students grades 9 through 12 who have been enrolled in a Health Science program or interested in, planning to pursue, or pursuing a career in the health professions; a Postsecondary Division for students enrolled in Health Science programs at the postsecondary/collegiate level; Professional Advisor to identify the person(s) responsible for advising students on health science activities that relate to HOSA; and Professional for healthcare professionals and other adult members of the community who wish to assist and support the HOSA program of activities.

Chapters are organized locally and must include an appointed advisor (preferably health science teacher.) Annual dues include: chapter (dues determined by local chapter), district (dues determined by district), state ($10 annual dues required), and national ($10 annual dues required).

There are more than 50 competitive events in HOSA, including health science events, health professions events, emergency preparedness events, leadership events, teamwork events, recognition events, and other opportunities for recognition.
