of Study and Grade Level Competencies, K - 12:

COMPETENCY GOAL 1: The learner will sing, alone and with others, a varied repertoire of music.

1.01 Recognize and demonstrate the difference between peaking and singing.
1.02 Match pitch within a developmentally appropriate range.
1.03 Sing with correct posture.
1.06 Show respect for the singing efforts of others.

Assessment Item:

Teacher creates a rubric for evaluating the vocal abilities and growth of the students.
Students are expected to meet level 2.
Students will be evaluated by the teacher during class.

Teacher notes:

This unit should be taught after the students have had experience with vocalizing in a variety of ways.? They should also not be graded on the tongue twisters until they can say them with ease and from memory.

VOCAL AWARNESS RUBRIC

DICTION	Enunciates tongue twister clearly (crisp and clear consonants)	Tongue twister words are fairly easy to understand (most words are clear and crisp)	Tongue twister words are difficult to understand (student needs continued practice)
VOCAL CONTROL	Demonstrates the difference between singing, speaking, whispering, and yelling voices with accuracy.	Demonstrates difference between singing, speaking, whispering, and yelling voices with little difficulty.	Cannot differentiate between the different voices.
