NORTH CAROLINA'S 2009 UNITED STATES SENATE YOUTH DELEGATES
Congratulations!
Zach Cady and Warche Downing
Selected North Carolina's
2009 United States Senate Youth Delegates
Zachary (Zach) Cady, a junior at Brevard High School (Transylvania County) and Warche Downing, a senior at Plymouth High School (Washington County) were selected from a competitive group of North Carolina high school students to be the two student delegates to represent North Carolina in the Forty-seventh annual United States Senate Youth Program (USSYP) in Washington, D.C. during the week of March 7-14, 2009. The USSYP is funded by the William Randolph Hearst Foundation which will pay all expenses for the week Zach and Warche will spend in Washington, D.C. As a part of the program both Zach and Warche will receive a one-time $5,000 undergraduate college scholarship with encouragement to pursue coursework in history and political science.
To apply for the Senate Youth Program, a student must be a junior or senior in high school currently serving in an elected or appointed capacity in student government or a related organization. Zach is a junior and has served as class president at Brevard High School for the past two years. Since a freshman in high school, Warche Downing has served in Plymouth High School's student government association. He is currently serving his second year as his high school's student body president. Both young men rank academically in the top percentage of their class. They each excel and have developed impressive experiences in serving others and volunteerism qualities directed toward public service.
The United States Senate Youth Program is a phenomenally unique educational experience for any outstanding high school student interested in pursuing careers in public service. With their outstanding resumes Zach Cady and Warche Downing will represent North Carolina well.
