NASA Shoebox Challenge
The Shoebox Challenge began as a celebration of the 100th anniversary of the Wright Brothers' flight at Kitty Hawk, North Carolina. That celebration had several parts.
Video conferences were arranged with schools in Ohio,
North Carolina middle and high school students were invited to enter several competitions:
* Build a glider around a shoebox and learn aerodynamics.
* Design a space suit to use during an exploration on the surface of Mars.
* Design a patch to symbolize the work of Ohio and North Carolina students and the flight's anniversary.
Performances of native American music, student poetry, and dance were shared during the video conference.
The event was so successful, the Shoebox Challenge was repeated for several years.
