DPI and OES Present
PEPNet's eFolio: Your Electronic Transition Portfolio

  • January 16 at ENCSD, Wilson NC (9:00 am - 4:00 pm)
  • January 23 at NCSD, Morganton, NC (9:00 am - 4:00 pm)

EPNet's eFolio's is a free, web-based transition tool especially designed for deaf and hard of hearing students. Participants will learn the benefits of using portfolios for transition planning and become familiar with the basic features and functions of eFolio.

Empower students to organize and manage academic, career, and independent living skills and goals in a web-based portfolio. Unlike a one-dimensional paper document, an eFolio can "come alive" and provide a "rich" display, including documents, images, audio, video, and Internet links. Students can update and add to their website as their individual transition plan develops and grows. PEPNet eFolio is a free tool for deaf or hard of hearing students (ages 12 and above). It requires no HTML or technical skills and no software installation. This "hands-on" presentation will help participants learn the skills needed to create a transition portfolio.

NEW LISTSERV FOR ALL EDUCATIONAL INTERPRETERS & DEAF EDUCATORS

DPI announces the establishment of two listervs. You can join this listserv for either Educational Interpreters and Transliterators or Deaf Educators and Professional working with children with hearing loss by following the directions below.

  1. Send an email to join-interpreter@lists.dpi.state.nc.us (Educational Interpreters and Transliterators)(and/or join-hearingeducation@lists.dpi.state.nc.us (Deaf educators and professionals) from the email you wish to receive information.
  2. You will receive an email from the list serve directing you to click a link for the final process. Once you click the link the process is completed.
  3. You will receive an email stating that you are now a member of the specific list serve.

AUDITORY VERBAL MODULES / WORKSHOPS - FALL 2008

It's Too Late Baby, It's Too Late-Or Is It?
When: December 8-9, 2008
Location: Durham Public Schools Staff Development Center (2107 Hillandale Road, Durham NC 27705)
Presenters: Beth Walker & Kathryn Wilson
Registration Deadline: November 14th
Participants will be introduced to information about children who are deaf or hard of hearing who do not have the opportunity to learn spoken language during the early years of their lives. Following exploration of possible reasons for a late start in spoken language learning, the presenters will discuss possible and reasonable outcomes in developing spoken language with these "late starters" – how late is really too late? The roles of professionals, the planning & implementing intervention with late starters, the possible differences in parentchild interaction when spoken language learning is begun at a "less than optimal" age will be discussed. Auditory learning capabilities for children "transitioning" from a manual approach to a spoken language approach at a later age will also be discussed.

There is NO COST to NC personnel and OES Early Intervention Staff

  • CEU's will be offered for all workshops
  • All workshops are from 9 to 4
