DEAF-BLIND
THE ROHRS FROM LENIOR, NC
Jason is the newest member of the Rohr family and is now 18 months old. He is a daily joy, and his family is praying for a healthy winter. He lives with his big brother, Benjamin, his mom, Lisa, and dad, TJ. His mother is on the board for the Deaf Blind Multi-Handicapped Association of North Carolina (DBPlus). This group has been a great encouragement to the Rohr family. It is wonderful group to be a part of if you have a child that is visually and hearing impaired.
Jason is not yet a part of the Public School system, but he will start when he turns 3. He is, however, a part of early interventions programs. Jason is enrolled in both the Morehead School of the Blind Preschool and the School of the Deaf Preschool Programs from Morganton. Both of these programs have itinerant teachers that visit once a week and Jason is learning so much. He enjoys discovering new toys, especially the plastic ones. He also is beginning to make a few sounds and to see objects. He shows improvement daily with regular physical and speech therapies. He also has learned a few signs (the important ones like more, eat, and pacifier).
Jason had a difficult start at birth. He was born at 27 weeks and weighed 1 pound, 13 ounces. His first 140 days of life were spent in NICUs around the state. Being a family of the NICU is an experience like none other. Jason is truly a blessing and it is miracle that he is such a sweet and smart little guy. The sky is the limit with a child like Jason. We never know what will be next.
