SCHOOL NAME & ADDRESS

SCHOOL NAME & ADDRESS (SNA) INFORMATION

The SNA file identifies all valid schools, school numbers, school types, principal names, teacher counts, grade spans, street and mailing addresses, web addresses, central office staff, email addresses, etc. It is a critical reference file to most DPI systems. It must be kept current and accurate at all times.

Updates can and should be made at any time throughout the year. Special attention should be given to the school program type and grade span as this information is very important to the Accountability Section in obtaining accurate testing results. Information in the SNA file is also published on the School Report Cards and in the Education Directory.

The file is located at the following web address: http://sna.dpi.state.nc.us

Anyone may view the SNA, log in as "Guest Log-In (View only)." Only the SNA Authorized Users have the ID and password to log in which allows them to edit and update their information. The SNA Authorized Users are designated by and located at each LEA and Charter School.

  • SNA Authorized Users for LEAs.
    (pdf, 22kb)
  • SNA Authorized Users for Charter Schools.
    (pdf, 22kb)

To change the SNA contact for your LEA or Charter School, please have a LEA or Charter School administrator send an email to Nicola Lefler, DPI SNA coordinator.

Tips for SNA Authorized Users

  • All of the information in the SNA file does not display on the LEA or school pages.
    • Click on the Change School Information button to see all of the information the file has about a school.
    • Click on the Change LEA Information button to see all of the information the file has about a LEA.
  • The Turnaround Document provides you with an brief overview of your information. You can print it out and make notes of changes needed, then go back later and enter updates.
  • If you want to Bookmark (or Add to Favorites) the SNA, use the main page, http://sna.dpi.state.nc.us, not your LEA or Charter School page. Bookmarking the LEA or Charter School page may cause you to access data from a previous school year.
  • There is an Online Help Guide on the main page; it is the second link down on the right. It specifies which information you can change, the maximum characters allowed per field, etc.
  • When updating information, use the Tab key to move from field to field. Tabbing will allow you to enter the maximum number of characters.
  • Certain Changes will not appear at once on your screen, such as new personnel positions, grade span and school name changes. Please do not submit a change multiple times. These have to be approved at DPI before the SNA will show them.
    • If you submit a change and the screen changes to a list of Regional Directors or other information that you did not expect to see, it means that there is an "error" on the page you were submitting. Please go back and verify that all of the information on the page is correct, not just your changes. If everything is correct, try tabbing through the page and on every field that is empty enter a "space." If you submit again and it is still taking you to the wrong screen or page, please send an email stating what you need updating, what you did, and the results.
  • To Delete a position: Click on the name that is to be deleted, then click the Change Information button. Type DELETE in the first name field, blank out all of the other fields and put a space in them. For more information about how to update the SNA file, including how to delete positions, show vacant positions, or adding positions, please read the online help guide, found on the SNA main page.
  • The Titles Dr., Mr., Mrs., and Ms. should only be used for your superintendent, finance officer, personnel administrator, and principals. Other positions may show a title if the person is addressed as Dr. The only title printed in the Education Directory will be Dr.
  • DPI will enter the Membership count from the 1st month Principal’s Monthly Report (PMR)/ Membership Last Day (MLD)
  • The Locale field is no longer used, new schools default to “NotSet.”
  • Accreditation Status is an optional field.
  • There are codes that have to be entered by DPI to identify a LEA’s Finance Officer and Personnel Administrator. Check the Superintendents, Finance Officers, & Personnel Administrators List at www.ncpublicschools.org/fbs/resources/ to see if yours is correct. If not, send an email with the names and titles.
  • The address field for LEAs Board Attorney is not functioning correctly. To change the Board Attorney address, please send an email with the new address and it will be entered for you.
