PLANT OPERATION

CONTACT :: Kim Lawson, Section Chief

The Plant Operation Section, School Support Division, is a completely receipt funded section which receives no funds from the State budget but receives its funds directly from the LEAs which pay to utilize the engineering services provided by the section to the LEA maintenance departments.

The Plant Operation Section provides engineering analysis and design services and engineering drawings to the LEA maintenance departments in the areas of structural, civil, electrical, mechanical, environmental, water and wastewater engineering. Assistance is provided for equipment repairs and replacement, small renovation projects, building and equipment assessment and evaluation, cost estimating, specifications and other areas of building engineering.

Our staff consists of seven engineers, a CAD technician and an administrative assistant.

Two of the section's seven engineers are field based in Wilson and Greensboro to cover the eastern and western sections of the state respectively. The other section personnel work out of the Raleigh office in the new Education Building.

Workshops are hosted by the section around the state during the year for the LEA maintenance department workers. These seminars assist the maintenance department workers in the LEAs to obtain continuing education credit for building licenses that they hold, to obtain new licenses and to gain general knowledge about the building trades and building maintenance.

The Plant Operation Section uses sound engineering principles to provide our LEA clients with economical maintenance solutions. Because the Plant Operation Section deals only with LEA physical facilities, we are familiar with the systems and materials that are most durable, economical and best suited for school facilities and which will provide the best learning environment for the students.
