Proposed Formula Change and How to Access Data for Variables

To Access Files Used for Formula Variables:

We have placed the Excel spreadsheets with the data on DPI’s website for easy access. You can access this file through the above link.


To Download the Data from Source:

The Census data source for the following formula variables can be located at the following web-address:

  • Percentage of public school students living in a single parent household
  • Percentage of public school students who have at least one parent with less than a high school diploma.


National Center for Education Statistics (http://nces.ed.gov/surveys/sdds):

  • Select Data Download (left side of page). This will take you to an information page.
  • Select Data Download (left side of page) again.


To Download the Education Level Table:

  • Select A State: North Carolina
  • Select Universe: Children by Parent Characteristic (CP)
  • Select Enrollment Type: Enrolled Public
  • Select A Table: P37 (for education level) and click "Go"

This will download the table for you.


To Download the Marital Status Table:

  • Select A State: North Carolina
  • Select Universe: Children by Parent Characteristic (CP)
  • Select Enrollment Type: Relevant Children - Enrolled Public
  • Select A Table: P 18 (for marital status) and click "Go"

This will download the table for you.
