The office also provides information in response to questions from agency staff, other government agencies, local school officials, and the public. However, the office cannot provide legal advice to members of the public. The ethical standards of the North Carolina State Bar require that legal advice be given only in an attorney-client relationship. Therefore, as State Board of Education employees, we provide legal advice solely to the State Board and the Department staff regarding official business. Katie G.
