DISTRICT IMPROVEMENT
CORRECTIVE ACTION FOR DISTRICTS
A district in Title I District Improvement enters the corrective action phase if it continues to not make targets in the same subject that first identified it at all three grade spans for three years. (The State Board of Education may delay corrective action if the district makes AYP for one year during the time the district is in Title I District Improvement.) The state assigns a sanction to school districts in corrective action. NC districts in corrective action must work to further align instruction with and fully implement the NC Standard Course of Study, including providing appropriate professional development.
Extensive professional development in aligning instruction to the curriculum (across grade levels and subject areas) is available to leaders in corrective action districts through the Center for School Leadership Development/Kenan-Flagler Business School, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and the Southern Regional Education Board.
Board Policy
In June 2006, the State Board of Education defined state policy, in accordance with No Child Left Behind, for districts in the third year of Title I District Improvement, the corrective action phase.
