Academics Plus is a full-service educational and assessment center. A program of study is developed to address the learner’s needs and academic deficiencies. Instructional programs are centered on the learner’s needs and the competency goals of the North Carolina Standard Course of Study. Instructional lessons are provided to the learner by trained teachers in a teacher student ratio of 3:1. Bi-weekly evaluations are submitted to parents documenting the learner’s work and progress.

Academic enrichment is a component of the Journey to Excellence Program. Catapult Online is a research-based, online, direct instructional program that utilizes individualized instruction and mastery learning techniques to target student’s specific reading or math skills gaps. Catapult provides 1:1 tutoring that allows the student and instructor to have two-way verbal dialogue using a headset connected to a computer. The instructor and student can also communicate by typing and writing using a digital pen or mouse questions/answers to each other which are displayed on both computer screens simultaneously. Computers are furnished for home use. Students are assessed and parents are communicated with on a regular basis.

Sylvan utilizes a multi-sensory approach and students demonstrate their knowledge using a wide variety of materials, including books, software and manipulatives. Instruction addresses the identified skill gaps. Students are assessed and there is communication with the parents on a regular basis.

This program focuses on strategies to enhance the abilities of low-performing and high risk students with a 1:5 ratio. The program also uses diverse instructional strategies, culturally sensitive curriculum professional guidance and direct individual academic support. A variety of assessments are used to monitor the progress of the students.

The standard University Instructors NCLB Supplemental Educational program provides up to 33 hours of direct instruction conducted at the school facility either before or after school, on Saturdays or during the summer. Staff personally meet with the student(s) 2-3 times per week in sessions that range from a minimum of 60 minutes to a maximum of 2 hours. The minimum ration of instructors to students is 1:1 with a maximum ratio of 1:5.

This program will design the student’s instructional program based on individual student assessments that will also support the North Carolina Standard Course of Study. Students will be engaged in a variety of activities with certified teachers using instructional software and other materials for two 40-minute sessions twice a week. There will be collaboration with the student’s home school and parents on a regular basis.
