Additional Efforts

In addition to the specific support efforts described, the State Board of Education and the Department of Public Instruction intend to provide other support to the Hoke County Schools.

  1. Anticipated Outcomes - Additional/support through grants and other initiatives or appropriate:
    • Increased collaboration between Hoke County Schools and the Department of Public Instruction
    • Additional resources through grants for the district
    • Improved programs (i.e. Reading First, EVAAS)
    • Quality Personal Education Plans (PEPs); fully implemented
    • A high-performing teacher with a clear license for all children performing below grade level

  2. Implementation
    In collaboration, the Hoke County Schools leadership and the Department of Public Instruction Deputy State Superintendent will continue to work to identify needs and potential areas of support for the on-going improvement efforts in Hoke County.

    Such support includes, but is not limited to:
    • Assistance in obtaining Reading First grants.
    • Assistance in obtaining a Gates grant for high school reform (New schools Project)
    • Assistance in increasing the Comprehensive School Reform grant.
    • Technical assistance/professional development through the ASSET program (UNC Center for School Leadership Development)
    • Additional training and technical assistance in the effective utilization of the EVAAS data system ($15,000.00).
    • Professional development and assistance in the implementation of NC WISE.
    • Assistance team support as needed.
    • Technical assistance with recruitment efforts
    • Personal Education Plans (PEPs) [see Attachment A]
    • Quality Teachers (see Attachment B)

  3. Projected Costs
    EVAAS $17,000.00
    General expenditures $5,000.00
    Disadvantaged Student Funding $223,844,660 (Immediate request is for at least 10%: $22, 384,466)
