NEWS RELEASES 2007-08IMPACT III MODEL GRANTS AWARDED
Principals at 17 schools in the Asheville City Schools' System, Pamlico County Schools' System and Scotland County Schools' System will be able to purchase new technology equipment for students including computers and laptops, video projectors, electronic white boards and graphing calculators thanks to their schools' recent receipt of an IMPACT III Model grant. Students also will benefit from the professional development and support their teachers will receive to enhance their schools' media and technology programs.
"Through the implementation of the IMPACT Model in these schools, these LEAs should see a positive impact on student achievement," said Wynn Smith, NCDPI's interim lead for Instructional Technology.
IMPACT III grants are funded through the competitive portion of North Carolina's Title II, D, Enhancing Education Through Technology allocation from the federal No Child Left Behind program. The grants are aligned with the North Carolina Educational Technology Plan and IMPACT: Guidelines for North Carolina Media and Technology Programs. In order to qualify for these grants, the districts participated in the IMPACTing Leadership Training.
The almost $3.4 million grant will be distributed as follows:

Eligibility for these grants was based on the federal criteria of high poverty and high technology need.
