STATEMENT BY STATE SUPERINTENDENT JUNE ATKINSON REGARDING
YOUTUBE VIDEO OF CUMBERLAND COUNTY TEACHER

The NC Department of Public Instruction has received a number of calls regarding the classroom political commentary of a Cumberland County teacher that was videotaped and posted on YouTube. The actions of this teacher are being investigated by the Cumberland County Public Schools. This issue is a local school district employment issue. Cumberland County will investigate and make appropriate recommendations about any action that should be considered by the State of North Carolina. I am confident that the district's leadership will respond appropriately.
