STATEMENT BY STATE SUPERINTENDENT JUNE ATKINSON REGARDING GOV. PERDUE'S BUDGET

State Superintendent June Atkinson has released this statement about Gov. Bev Perdue's budget, presented today:

"Gov. Bev Perdue has presented a budget today that keeps public education at the top of North Carolina's agenda. I am grateful that she has put education at the forefront of the state's budget. Public education is the engine that will drive North Carolina's economy in the years ahead, and we cannot afford to shortchange the educational opportunities of our children even during such difficult economic times."
