STATE BOARD OF EDUCATION TO VISIT HALIFAX COUNTY SCHOOLS; BOARD TO HOLD ITS MONTHLY MEETING AT WILLIAM R. DAVIE MIDDLE SCHOOL
The State Board of Education will hold its March 3-4 meeting in Halifax County, providing an opportunity for Board members to visit several schools in the county and to meet with local education leaders, community leaders and citizens.
A community reception will be held on Wednesday, March 3 from 5:15-5:45 p.m. at William R. Davie Middle School, 4391 Highway 158, Roanoke Rapids. Immediately following the reception there will be an hour-long question and answer session for State Board of Education members and members of the community. Individuals who would like to speak during the question and answer segment will be asked to sign in at the event site.
The Board will begin its activities in Halifax County with a tour of Aurelian Springs Elementary, 10536 Highway 48, Littleton, at 8:15 a.m. on Wednesday, March 3. At 10 a.m., it will begin its regular monthly committee meetings at Davie Middle School. Members will tour that school at lunchtime. Committee meetings are expected to end at approximately 4 p.m. that day.
On Thursday, March 4, Board members will tour Southeast Halifax High School, 16683 Highway 125, Halifax, at 8:30 a.m. The Board's formal meeting will be at Davie Middle beginning at 10:30 a.m. The formal meeting is where the Board takes action on recommendations provided by its committees. The State Board of Education and Department of Public Instruction have been formally involved in Halifax County Schools since a May 2009 consent order of the Wake County Superior Court.
