TATUM JOINS STATE BOARD OF EDUCATION AS LOCAL BOARD ADVISOR
North Carolina State Board of Education members this morning welcomed William (Bill) Tatum as their new Local Board Advisor. Tatum currently serves on the Lee County Board of Education.
Bill Tatum has been a member of the Lee County Board of Education since 2004, serving as chairman from July of that year until June 2010. During his tenure as chair, Lee County Schools made tremendous strides in student achievement, financial strength, facility construction and management, and organizational stability.
Tatum also is the 2011 Raleigh Dingman Award recipient. This prestigious annual award honors the most outstanding local school board member from among the state's 115 boards of education. As the Raleigh Dingman award recipient, Tatum will serve a one-year term as an ex officio member of the State Board of Education representing the North Carolina School Boards Association and the state's 115 local boards of education. The State Board of Education typically meets the first Wednesday and Thursday of each month.
