PUBLIC NOTICE
NORTH CAROLINA DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC INSTRUCTION FOR WAIVERS TO TITLE I, PART A SUPPLEMENTAL EDUCATIONAL SERVICES

Notice is hereby given that the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction (DPI) will submit a request for an applicable waiver to requirements of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA) as it relates to Supplemental Educational Services (SES). The waiver would allow any local educational agency (LEA) or school in the State to apply to be a state approved SES provider for the 2011-12 school year. DPI requests a waiver of the requirements listed below:

  • A waiver of the provision that prohibits an State Educational Agency (SEA) from approving as a provider of supplemental educational services (SES) a school identified for improvement, corrective action, or restructuring or an local educational agency (LEA) identified for improvement or corrective action (34 C.F.R. ยง 200.47(b)(1)(iv)(A), (B)).

The State believes that the requested waiver will increase the quality of instruction for students and improve the academic achievement of students by potentially increasing options for parents in schools required to offer SES.

The public is invited to review and comment on the waivers being requested by June 6, 2011. Interested persons may present their written comments to:
