Ten school districts and 46 high schools today were honored by State Superintendent June Atkinson for having the highest four-year cohort graduation rates among all districts and schools in the state in 2012-13.
“Last year, our statewide graduation rate increased to 82.5 percent while students and teachers transitioned to new state standards and assessments and many schools faced significant financial challenges,” said State Superintendent June Atkinson. “This outstanding accomplishment is a testament to the high quality teachers and school leaders we are fortunate to have in our schools. I commend principals and teachers in these schools for their resilience, enthusiasm and their commitment to preparing all students for success in the future.”
Representatives from the districts and schools received plaques at a luncheon held in Durham. To receive an award, schools must have been open for at least four years. The full report on the state's cohort graduation rates, as well as previous years' reports, is available online at www.ncpublicschools.org/accountability/reporting/cohortgradrate.
