PRINCIPALS' MESSAGES 2006

MESSAGES 2006 :: JULY 20, 2006

JULY 20, 2006

The 2006 Legislative session was one of the most positive for public schools that we have seen in a number of years. Funds for low-wealth school districts, disadvantaged students supplemental funding, teacher and administrator pay increase and other key items were provided. Many of you have called and/or emailed concerning the 2006-07 salary schedule. These are posted online at http://www.ncpublicschools.org/salary_admin/salinfo.htm. I hope that you will consider inviting your legislators to visit your schools at some point during the upcoming school year. It is important for all of us to thank them for their support and to demonstrate how dollars they have provided are being used in the classroom.

Regards,
June Atkinson

In this Biweekly Principals' Message:

  1. Surplus Property Available to Public Schools
  2. Congratulations to ASCA Model Program Award Recipients

Surplus Property Available to Public Schools

Public schools (including charter schools) are eligible to purchase equipment and materials from State Surplus Property. Many items are available without going through the regular bidding process. Public and public charter schools can purchase these items at reasonable prices through a negotiated sale process with State Surplus Property for any item SSP has in inventory. Available items include desks, filing cabinets, tables, stackable chairs, bookcases, classroom desks, cars, pick-up trucks, maintenance trucks and many others. If interested, please call Mike Coats or Don Fussell at 919.854.2160 or go to www.ncstatesurplus.com and click on "Priority Classifieds" for more information.

Congratulations to ASCA Model Program Award Recipients

The American School Counselor Association (ASCA) awards the RAMP designation annually to select school counselors and schools which align with the guidelines set in the ASCA National Model: A Framework for School Counseling. The purpose of the prestigious designation is to identify deserving schools and school counselors committed to delivering comprehensive, data-driven school counseling programs and creating exemplary educational environments. Once again, North Carolina is well-represented among the RAMP awards with more awards than any other state. Six of the 18 2005-06 RAMP awards given nationwide went to the following schools, all in Wake County: Holly Ridge Elementary School, Mt. Vernon Middle School, Olive Chapel Elementary School, Green Hope High School, Middle Creek High School and Southeast Raleigh Magnet High School.
