PRINCIPALS' MESSAGES 2009

MESSAGES 2009 :: SEPTEMBER 17, 2009

SEPTEMBER 17, 2009 - Principals' Biweekly Message

Last week, I joined Gov. Bev Perdue and other members of her cabinet at a news conference to call attention to the need for everyone to get the seasonal flu vaccine and to practice good hygiene and other preventive measures to slow the spread of the H1N1 flu virus. Citizens identified as priority, which includes all of our school-aged students, also are encouraged to take the H1N1 vaccine as soon as North Carolina begins to receive supplies of this new vaccine. Public health authorities say that the first shipments are slated to arrive in mid-to-late October and will continue in the subsequent weeks and months. School-based vaccination clinics are being planned in conjunction with local health departments since the school-age population is particularly vulnerable to this flu virus. Please work closely with your health department to plan for this. Remember that there are a number of H1N1 flu information resources available online from the front page of NCDPI's Web site. Just go to www.ncpublicschools.org and click on Emergency Communication Resources. These items are being continually updated with the latest guidance on the appropriate response to H1N1 and other preparedness issues. And remind students and faculty alike to wash their hands, practice good cough hygiene and to stay home when they are ill.

Regards,
June Atkinson
