2013-14 TITLE I REWARD SCHOOLS

We are pleased to provide you with an updated list of Title I Reward Schools for the 2013-14 school year. The schools were selected based on assessment data from the 2011-12 school year and the two previous years. A “reward school” is a Title I school that is—

  • A “highest-performing school” which is a school among the top ten percent of Title I schools in the State that have the highest absolute performance over a number of years for the “all students” group and for all subgroups on the statewide assessments; or
  • A “high-progress school” which is a school among the ten percent of Title I schools in the State that are making the most progress in improving the performance of the “all students” group over a number of years on the statewide assessments.

As described in the State’s approved ESEA Flexibility Request, the top ten percent of Reward Schools are invited to submit portfolios to identify the best practices contributing to the school’s success. Portfolios are peer reviewed by members of the Title I Distinguished Schools Advisory Council with on-site visits conducted to determine one school for each category to represent North Carolina in the national Title I Distinguished Schools Program.
