School Improvement Grants (SIG) 1003(g) funds are awarded by formula to State Education Agencies (SEAs) with approved applications. SEAs then make competitive grants available to Local Education Agencies (LEAs) over three years. An LEA may request funds for eligible schools in amounts between $50,000 and $2,000,000 per year for each school it commits to serve. SIG schools must implement one of four federally-defined models (pdf, 53kb) to improve or close and LEAs must outline a plan for implementing the chosen model in their application to the SEA.

  • Local Education Agency Application for 1003(g) Funding – This application must be submitted by the LEA for eligible SIG school(s) to the N.C. Department of Public Instruction by April 15, 2011 for second cohort SIG funding 2011-2014.
