PERSONALIZED EDUCATION PLANS
INTRODUCTION
During the fall of 2000 the Division of School Improvement, with assistance from the Divisions of Exceptional Children and Instructional Services, conducted eight regional training sessions on writing personalized education plans (PEPs) as required in the Student Accountability Standards which were adopted by the State Board of Education in April of 1999. The sessions were designed to give participants an opportunity to actually write a PEP. Response to the sessions was excellent, and over 1,200 educators participated in the sessions. However, other educators were not able to attend a session.
In an effort to reach educators who were not able to participate and to build capacity in the LEAs, the Division of School Improvement provided a training of trainers (TOT) on the PEPs with focus on requirements of the Student Accountability Standards as well as how the standards apply to exceptional children and English-language learners. The material contained in this notebook is intended to allow teams from each LEA and charter schools to provide training in their home area without having to rely on future trainings sponsored by the Department of Public Instruction.
The format in the training manual is based on the format of the original work sessions, but also contains suggestions from participants as well as lessons learned by the trainers. Information is provided in as much depth as possible to ensure that all participants have access to the same information. Questions about contents of the training materials may be addressed to the Division of School Improvement at 919.807.3911.
