PEP MANUAL :: ORGANIZATION OF MATERIALS

ORGANIZATION OF MATERIALS

The training notebook reflects the training delivered by the Division of School Improvement, Department of Public Instruction, and is organized into three sections. The first section, "Content/Process," provides step-by-step information on the time, purpose, topic/presenter, activity, setting, and materials needed for each activity. Suggested times are just that: suggested. Trainers need the flexibility to adjust content and delivery to meet the needs of their participants.

Extensive background information is available to assist the trainer in delivering necessary information. Trainers will be able to delete information they feel appropriate as well as add information on local policies to this manual on the State's Student Accountability Policy. Section One is, in effect, the "lesson plan" for the training.

This section also includes material on the "Nuts and Bolts for Conducting the Training." Research-based practices are included because they are critical to establishing a context appropriate for adult learners. In addition, materials are included for all LEA teams to assist them in training school-based teams.

While many trainers will already be familiar with the information, novice trainers may find it helpful, and experienced trainers may find it a helpful review. It is also a good reminder of how all professional development should be delivered, not just these PEP activities.

Section Two is comprised of black/white copies of all transparencies used throughout the training. Trainers should be able to use these to make their own copies of materials for their use during the training. Some may wish to convert this to PowerPoint to use during the training.

The third section contains the handouts used in the training and those handouts included in the participant packets. Again, black/white copies are provided so that copies can be made for training sessions conducted in the LEAs.

Trainers are encouraged to use and share this notebook with staff in the LEA to provide appropriate and relevant training on the Student Accountability Standards. Modifications to the notebook are certainly important, if needed, to meet the needs of participants.
