From Promise to Practice: Two Schools’ Programmatic Approach to Student Success
This report is an action research document that highlights two schools that are closing the academic achievement gap between North Carolina’s largest student populations, black and white, while moving the achievement of all groups upward. The research had two purposes: (1) to identify schools in North Carolina who were raising student achievement and closing gaps; and (2) to determine whether the schools’ achievement gaps were closed through effective utilization of Lezotte’s Seven Correlates of Effective Schools. This report also provides information on best practices for schools and communities that are leading the way in increasing student performance.

Indian Education - Pathways to the 21st Century
The State Advisory Council on Indian Education was established to identify issues and concerns that affect academic achievement of American Indian students. The Council has devised a report that strives to address relevant concerns pertaining to the education of American Indian students and provide appropriate recommendations to the State Board of Education. Each year, the Council focuses its efforts on dropout data and academic achievement. This report is published annually.

Narrowing the Achievement Gap: Schools in North Carolina that are Making Significant Progress, 2003-04 to 2004-05
This report from School Matters, a service of Standard&Poor’s analyzes achievement gaps in North Carolina schools that have made significant progress in narrowing the achievement gap between higher- and lower-performing student groups. Standard&Poor’s has identified 14 schools that have significantly narrowed achievement gaps between the 2003-04 and 2004-05 school years.
