CBM FLUENCY

CURRICULUM BASED MEASUREMENT (CBM)

CBM is the method of monitoring student progress through direct, continuous assessment of basic skills. CBM is used to assess reading fluency skills and comprehension. Early literacy skills (phonics and phonological awareness) are similar measures and are downward extensions of CBM.

CBM is an approved and standardized assessment practice based on over 25 years of scientific research.

AIMSweb

North Carolina has chosen Edformation as a vendor to implement CBM. AIMSweb combines CBM with web-based data management and reporting applications. A handheld device, such as a Palm, may be used for reporting. Together, these components provide a pro-active and preventative solution to inform instruction, demonstrate improvement, and report success.
