READING FIRST CONSULTANTS
The consultants are responsible for providing assistance to the principal, LEA contact, school coach and teacher. Consultants will provide intensive, consistent coordination and on-going professional development for Reading First schools. Consultants will receive guidance and supervision from the Reading First section chief. Specific responsibilities include the following:
Specific responsibilities will be:
- Assist in the selection of instructional materials.
- Lead schools in using and interpreting data.
- Assist in identifying needs and planning professional development.
- Provide documentation of communication and/or site visits.
- Assist LEAs in identifying ongoing professional development needs.
- Provide technical assistance in arranging professional development from qualified providers.
- Assist in the planning and delivery of professional development to increase teaching capacity that will result in increased student achievement in Reading First Schools.
- Monitor Reading First activities and schools and submit required monitoring reports to State Education Agency (SEA): 8-10 site visits per month.
- Facilitate communication among regions and the SEA to resolve issues/concerns.
- Provide technical assistance with RF implementation.
- Assist with reading assessments and data interpretation.
- Provide any additional assistance as needed.
- Train school coaches to be mentors and monitors of instructional delivery and student progress.
- Train school coaches to analyze and monitor data.
- Provide professional development on SBRR.
- Provide professional development on coaching.
- Provide technical support which may include frequent site visits, participating in professional development provided to teachers and modeling best practices in schools.
- Participate in professional development provided to teachers in Reading First schools.
- Model teaching practices in Reading First schools.
- Provide assistance to central office coordinators in both RF and non-RF schools.
- Collect and report data as required for the grant to the SEA, external evaluator and US DOE.
